CIRA issued a fraud alert to advise dot-ca domain name holders not to respond to any communications from “DAD Deutscher Adressdienst GmbH”, a German company that is operating under the name “Registre Internet du Canada”.
The full text of the alert can be found on the following CIRA links, http://www.cira.ca/news-releases-french/187.html (in French) or http://www.cira.ca/news-releases/200.html (in English).
The scam is targeting CIRA Registrants in Quebec with French language faxes or letters containing official looking forms requesting Registrant contact information. While the forms appear to be required to update domain name Registration records, they are actually luring unsuspecting Registrants into a $1457 package of marketing services offered by DAD Deutscher Adressdienst GmbH.
This matter has been reported to law enforcement agencies. If your registrants have any questions on this matter, you may reference the CIRA alert or ask them to contact CIRA Customer Support at 877-860-1411.
