On Tuesday 05 February 2019, the .CA registry, CIRA, will be transitioning from it’s current backend to a new system. In order to facilitate this, they will need a large maintenance time.
Between the hours of 6am and 4pm Eastern [11:00-21:00 UTC], the .CA registry will be unavailable – with the possibility of this extending if CIRA requires more time.
During this window, domain owners will be unable to create new domains, update existing domain properties or contacts, renew domains or even perform a whois lookup.
If you need to make a nameserver or whois change, you will need to co-ordinate that prior to OR after the maintenance window.
If CIRA requires more time, we will be updating this status post as information is available.
For domains in Redemption Grace Period that are at the end of the 30 days [meaning the last possible day of renewing is 05 February], you will need to renew the domain prior to 05 February. CIRA will not be extending the date by one day due to the maintenance so the domain will be deleted and not renewable.
During the maintenance window, certain www.cira.ca website functions (such as Name Search, WHOIS, TBR Listings, Agreement Landing Page and Message Delivery Form) will be offline.
All active .CA domains will continue to resolve during this maintenance window.
**Update – it has been confirmed by CIRA that the maintenance window is complete and everything is operational again.
