Following on the heels of our earlier unveiling of tweet2txt, I thought I’d mention 2 new features of the new platform that I think our members will agree are long welcome additions: Instant DNS activation for new domains and optional 301 Redirects for URL forwarding.
1) Instant DNS activation for new domains. As soon as you pay the invoice, the domain is live on the nameservers. No more “wait a few hours for all of the nameservers to pick up the new domain in their configs”. It happens immediately.
Kinda cool, especially if you’ve got a “hair on fire” situation where your DNS provider is down (not us, I would hope) and you want to get up and running elsewhere (preferably here) fast. Now that many of the roots update in realtime, you can be up and running with easyDNS as your new DNS provider in under 5 minutes.
2) Optional 301 header for URL forwarding. We could do this on the old system but it required manual intervention and you had to open up a ticket with support to ask for it. Now you can just check the handy “301” checkbox and we’ll URL forward as a 301 Redirect (moved permanently) instead of the default 302 “found”.
Depending on your requirements, there are reasons you would want to use one or the other.
